Intense Pulsed Light Therapy or “photofacial” is a way to improve the colour and texture of your skin without the use of surgery. IPL uses light energy to target a certain colour in your skin and can undo some of the visible damage caused by sun exposure, also known as “photoaging”. IPL is like a laser treatment; however, a laser focuses just one wavelength of light on your skin, while IPL releases light of many different wavelengths. The light from IPL is more scattered and less focused than a laser. IPL penetrates down to the second layer of your skin without harming the top layer, therefore causing less damage to your skin
You can use IPL to minimize or remove age spots, sun damage, freckles, birthmarks, varicose veins, broken blood vessels & rosacea on your face, as well as remove of hair on your face, neck, back, chest, legs, underarms or bikini line. Pigment cells in your skin absorb the light energy, which is converted into heat. The heat destroys the unwanted pigment to clear up freckles and other spots (or destroys the hair follicle to prevent the hair from growing again).

What to Expect:
Before your IPL procedure, the skin care specialists at Durand Health will examine your skin and propose an effective treatment. Let them know if you have any skin conditions that might affect healing after your treatment, such as inflammatory acne or eczema. After your skin is cleansed, a cool gel will be applied to your skin then the IPL device will be held to small sections of your skin as the device emits light therapy. The treatment is minimally painful and depending on which part of your body is being treated the treatment should take 20 to 30 minutes. During your treatment, you’ll need to wear dark glasses to protect your eyes.
The team at Durand Health is happy to offer free virtual or in-person consults to determine if this treatment is a good option for you. (Please ensure you talk to your doctor first before receiving this treatment if you are pregnant, have a skin condition, or take medication for other conditions).
